1/6 scale Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk1 rifle, painting wood grain effect.

Bought Dargon model kits 1/6 scale PIAT & Enfield No.4 Mk1 rifles a couple of months ago. Now want to start working on it with my newly purchased Lifecolor gun & weapon set.

Here’s a reference of the real rifle, notice the butt stock there got screws and a compartment. no4 mk1 3 9 300x140

Add in the same details on the scale models.

Next would be painting, i start with the wood stock. First apply the lifecolor light wood and shade with dark wood color.

Next is painting the wood grain effect, here i use oil color, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre. Apply a layer of Burnt Umber on the wood stock, then blend in lighter color like Burnt Sienna and Yellow Ochre.DSC06265 300x225

The result would be like this, i used a flat tips brush, and create the wood grain by dragging the brush along, the oil paint need to be thick, therefore it leave obvious brush stroke, where it will be the illusion of wood grain. I had waited 4 days for the oil paint to completely dry.IMAG0511 225x300

The next step is to paint the varnish of the stock, i used clear brown, clear orange and clear black.
